Messages of support from around the world for Hambleton Talking Newspaper

3 Aug 2026

What began as a heartwarming video of our Hambleton Community Action volunteer has grown into something much bigger than anyone could have imagined. Following the video's success online, messages of support started arriving from across the globe. People from countries including Kenya, the USA, Australia, Singapore and Italy wanted to share their encouragement. To make sure those messages could reach the people who would appreciate them most, the team created 'Postcards from Abroad' which allows people anywhere in the world to leave a short message which is then read aloud to visually impaired listeners through the service.

Hambleton Talking Newspaper which is a volunteer led project of Hambleton Community Action provides an important service for people living with sight loss, helping them stay informed about local news and community events. However, the service costs approximately £8,600 per year to run, and continued support is needed to ensure it remains available for those who rely on it.
