About Us

Hambleton Community Action is a registered charity that offers a range of services focused on enabling and encouraging participation – socially, economically and within the community.

Our innovative person-centred, strength-based approach underpins all our activities.

Most of our services are delivered by an amazing team of volunteers supported by a small, dedicated team of staff.

What We Do

Our Story

Founded in 1979, Hambleton Community Action was previously known as the Northallerton & District Voluntary Service Association (NDVSA). NDVSA registered as a charity and was first housed in Northallerton Library.

Our remit was to support the development of new voluntary groups to fill gaps, support existing organisations and promote liaison between the voluntary sector and statutory agencies. These objectives remain relevant today.

In 1994 we moved to premises at Community House, 10 South Parade, Northallerton.

In July 2016 we re-branded under the new name Hambleton Community Action to better reflect the support and geographical area we serve. At the same time, we changed our status to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

In April 2019, Hambleton Community Action moved to its current premises at Ground Floor Office Suite, 159/160 High Street, Northallerton, DL7 8JZ.

What We Do

Our values

Inclusive - We welcome everyone with dignity and respect, creating a friendly, person-centred environment that values individuality. Our flexible, outcome-focused services are tailored to meet diverse needs, not limited by time or sessions. We simplify our processes to prioritise quality support for people aged 16 and above, regardless of identity.

Empathetic -We listen with care and act with compassion. Our supportive approach promotes independence, resilience, and well-being. We work alongside other organisations to better understand and respond to the needs of the community.

Open-minded - We’re a flexible, forward-thinking charity that adapts to the changing needs of our communities. Through continuous learning and engagement with stakeholders, we create innovative, solution-focused services—always asking “how can we?” rather than “can we?”

Collaborative - We value partnership over competition. By working closely with other organisations and sharing skills, we strengthen community support networks and build trust. Our goal is to ensure people get the help they need from those best placed to provide it.

Enabling -  We deliver outcome-driven projects that empower individuals and communities. Our team is trusted to make fair, informed decisions that removes barriers to help people develop and thrive, helping people to access vital services.
